Eco Leaders
Eco-Schools is a global programme engaging 19.5 million children across 67 countries, making it the largest educational programme on the planet.
For nearly 25 years Eco-Schools has been empowering children to drive change and improve their environmental awareness through the simple Seven-Step framework in order to achieve the international Eco-Schools Green Flag award.
Eco-Schools develops pupils’ skills, raises environmental awareness, improves the school environment and creates financial savings for schools as well as a whole host of other benefits.
Here at St David's, our Eco Council is led with great enthusiasm by Miss Jones. Our Eco Council aims to develop environmental awareness across our school community and to care for and develop our local environment.
Our Eco Council meet regularly and are working hard at the moment to ensure all children are travelling to school safely and, where possible, sustainable.
We have recently finished our Action Plan for 2024-25 which has a focus on sustainable travel, encouraging learners to walk, scoot or cycle to school.
The Eco Council want to promote sustainable travel to school to reduce the emissions around the school. During cycle to school week, the Eco Council hosted a poster competition. All children in St David's were invited to design a poster to encourage walking, cycling and scooting to school. The winning pupil's class won 15 minutes extra play time outside - congratulations year 4!
How can we be more Eco-Friendly?
Year 3 used the iPads to research how they can be more eco-friendly. We used this information to help us write our action plan.
Bling your Bike!
With the help of Sustrans, we held a bling your bike session! Children from year 3 brought in their bikes and scooters to make them bright. The children used lots of different materials to make their bikes and scooters stand out. We also had a catwalk through the yard to show off our wonderful creations! It was lovely to see all of the bright bikes and scooters and a great way to ensure children are seen whilst travelling to school.
